ielo announces the launch of his nationwide long-haul network

ielo, the French telecom infrastructure operator, continues to execute its growth strategy and today announces the launch of its national optical transmission network.
Spanning 10,000 kilometres, this long-haul network interconnects more than 200 WDM optical nodes, enabling ultra-high-speed connectivity between businesses, data centres, and digital infrastructure across France.

By combining this new long-haul backbone with its existing 4,000 km metropolitan fibre network, ielo expands its carrier portfolio and delivers a unique infrastructure offering capable of connecting not only the country’s leading data centres, but also virtually any site across France.

Designed and operated entirely by ielo’s technical teams, this new infrastructure stands out from existing networks through its extensive geographic coverage and the variety of routes available.

Built on a “zero compromise” approach, ielo has deployed and selected the most direct routes possible, including infrastructure running along motorway corridors, widely recognised as some of the most secure paths available.

The network is powered by latest-generation DWDM equipment, providing an initial capacity of 96 × 400 Gbps per route, while delivering optimal latency performance.

This infrastructure addresses a critical market need: access to high-quality network foundations capable of supporting the growing bandwidth demands of businesses and service providers throughout France.

To meet these requirements, ielo now offers a new optical transport service through the provision of wavelength services, delivering capacities ranging from 10 Gbps to multiple 100 Gbps channels across the entire ielo coverage footprint.

« Today’s long-haul networks typically interconnect only a few dozen data centres across France. Our network addresses a different need : making it easy to connect any location anywhere in the country. Until now, that kind of offering did not really exist.
Naturally, we use this network to support our own operations. But we are also making it available to our partners, many of whom have significant requirements in this area. »

About ielo

ielo is a neutral telecom infrastructure operator dedicated to professional markets, specialising in the design and operation of Very High-Speed fibre networks that underpin modern digital activities.

Created by French entrepreneurs, ielo completed a significant fundraising round in July 2020 to accelerate its national expansion, extend coverage to more than 95 metropolitan areas, and establish itself as France’s leading alternative wholesale operator.

At the time of this announcement, ielo’s national network comprised more than 4,000 km of fibre-optic infrastructure and was continuing to expand rapidly. In 2020, ielo generated €18 million in revenue.

The company employs 230 people, operates 10 Regional Technical Centres across France to maintain full control over deployments nationwide, and continues to recruit new talent to support its growth.
